Booking a BSL/English Interpreter

BSL or British Sign Language/English interpreters are very much in demand, and as such, it is advisable to book them well in advance. We therefore recommend a minimum of 3 weeks notice in order to guarantee a booking. However, we are very aware of the needs of the Deaf community, so will always try to provide our services at short notice for emergency situations.

All of our sign language bookings are accepted on the understanding that the BSL interpreters, when working solo, are allocated at least 10 minutes in every ½ hour for a break. (It should be understood that during these breaks, the BSL interpreter would not be working.) BSL interpreting requires a very strong focus, and we like to ensure that the service provided is of the highest quality, and that performance is not adversely affected by tiredness. This is also as a preventative measure for Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI).

In the main, all of our sign language interpreters are happy to work solo for assignments of not more than 2 hours duration. Assignments lasting more than 2 hours, or where communication is intense, may require two interpreters.

When you are planning the assignment, remember to allow at least twice as much time as you would for an ‘English-only’ conversation. When booking a BSL interpreter, it is recommended that we receive any relevant information/documentation relating to the assignment well in advance of the appointment, so that the interpreter is well briefed to the Deaf clients needs.

You can request a BSL interpreter by contacting us or by completing an online booking form.
